NTT COMWARE CORPORATION and Sun Microsystems team up to optimize companies' customer-related business with "e-Optimization"

NTT COMWARE CORPORATION
Sun Microsystems, Inc.

NTT COMWARE CORPORATION (Head Office: Minato-ku, Tokyo, President: Yuji Matsuo) and Sun Microsystems, Inc. (Head Office: Setagaya-ku, Tokyo, President: Toshiaki Sugawara) agreed to work on a joint project to promote "e-Optimization (*1)," a total solution that enables IT customer-oriented business start-ups to optimize their marketing of products and services and their responses to the customers.

e-Optimization streamlines inbound transactions from customers by using the Internet and cost-reducing VoIP (*2) to call centers, the frontline in customer service, and enables a strategic outbound approach to customers by implementing strategic data mining (*3) that precisely forecasts customers' purchasing tendencies based on accumulated information. The service digitizes commercial activities including transportation, financing, and settlements with e-commerce applications. The service provides total support for business activities that allow businesses to quickly and accurately respond to customer needs, optimize the whole process from planning to sales of products, and, in the long run, improved productivity assures a high return on investment. These service offerings are available only through this joint project that teams NTT COMWARE CORPORATION's technical capabilities in the fields of Customer Relationship Management (CRM) (*4), VoIP, Supply Chain Management (SCM) (*5), mobile technologies and ASP (*6), and Sun's technical reputation in hardware and middleware with its market share in servers.

Sun is the leader in promoting network computing on open interfaces and industrial standards-compliant solutions for open computing environments. Java™(*7) technology allows the creation of secure programs regardless of hardware and software. The Company plays a critical role in the IT marketplace. Most recently, Sun has proposed and promoted JAIN™(*8), a set of Java APIs that enable the development of high value-added telecommunications services that are versatile and secure by integrating conventional telephony networks, IP networks, and wireless communications networks. The Company also provides the Sun Ray ™Enterprise System (*9) in which servers administrate and operate an entire infrastructure, including the operating environment, applications and each users' environment. End users are completely freed from system administration tasks.

NTT COMWARE CORPORATION is the top provider of integrated IT services including consulting and outsourcing based on its achievements and know-how in developing, maintaining, and operating sophisticated telecommunications systems. NTT COMWARE CORPORATION is the IT solution division of the four NTT Group companies (NTT, NTT East, NTT West, and NTT Communications) in charge of development and operation of call center systems for line applications and troubleshooting. This experience has led to the development of a variety of applications and the know-how to create customer satisfaction and produce high returns, such as Sales Force Automation (SFA) (*10) that streamlines marketing activities by properly apprehending and analyzing customer demand.

With this joint project, NTT COMWARE CORPORATION provides integration and network services, and development of market-intensive solutions for e-Optimization. Sun supports NTT COMWARE CORPORATION in the development, assessment and configuration of e-Optimization by making the most of the know how it has accumulated at its iForce™ Ready Center(*11).

It is projected that sales and marketing activities will produce aggregate orders of ¥120 billion by the end of fiscal 2005.
