NTT Comware Starts the Service of HP Vertica Analytics Platform (the High Speed Database Analysis Platform for Big Data) to Use Big Data for Business Enhancement
-- To provide a high speed DWH system with high cost efficiency --

NTT Comware Corporation (Head office: Minato-ku, Tokyo; President: Shinobu Umino) starts a joint venture with Hewlett-Packard Asia Pacific and Japan (Head Office: Koto-ku, Tokyo; Senior Vice President, Enterprise Group & Managing Director: Jim Merritt) (hereinafter, Japan HP) to start the services of HP Vertica Analytics Platform (hereinafter, HP Vertica) as well as the "general-purpose high speed computing solution" including HP Vertica.

1. Background
In the recent trend of the strategic use of big data in business, there are issues for corporate users who need a detailed analysis of big data how to cope with delays of response for data processing and excess loads to platforms and its expansion, due to increase of data volumes and needs for deep analyses of big data. HP Vertica is a solution to strongly support corporate users to solve problems through its functions to dramatically increase the speed of data processing of big data and flexible extendibility of the platform.

2. Benefits of the Solution
NTT Comware provides the following solutions through the service, by taking advantages of NTT Comwarefs know-hows through affluent experiences of big data management as a NTT group company, and the high-speed data analysis solution of HP Vertica as below.
(1) Efficient Assistance for Business Judgment based on Timely and Fine Data Analysis
The column-oriented DBMS*1 and the super high-speed data search technologies such as the massively parallel processing of HP Vertica are effective to continuously analyze big data in diversity and mass volume existing in an enterprise system on a real time basis. By using the service, the corporate users make their business judgment according to the results of a timely and detailed analysis.

(2) High Expandability Against Increase of Data Volume

3. Future Scenario
With this joint venture, Japan HP provides technical assistance such as providing technical information concerning HP Vertica to NTT Comware. NTT Comware provides a one-stop service of HP Vertica, its hardware products and other data processing middleware including its sales, architecting, maintenance services for the users. HP Vertica is to enhance the service contents of NTT Comware, not only in the areas of access log analysis and correlation analysis of SNS data that are some of expertise of NTT Comware, but also sales, maintenance and technical supports for the initial setup of HP Vertica solution for corporate users in a variety of areas or fields such as finance, manufacturing, merchandising and public sectors, including as risk management services and agent fee analyses for financial sectors, and sales and SNS analyses for users in merchandizing industries.
Consequently, the users receive strong assistances for their business development using the real time and high-level analysis of big data.

(Reference) Outline of HP Vertica
HP Vertica has the following features to contribute to solve issues of conventional DWH systems.
(1) Super high-speed data search by column-oriented DBMS (Database Management System) and MPP (Massively Parallel Processing) Against conventional uses of DWH such as issuance of complicated queries to target a small number of columns to many lines, the column-oriented DBMS is expected to increase the efficiencies and speed to access a hard disk. HP Vertical realizes a super high-speed data search of mass data by using the column-oriented architecture, and the super parallel architecture which particularly has scale-out capabilities.

(2) High Efficiencies of Cost Performance
HP Vertica is software to operate on a general-purpose IA server. The service is available with license fees subject to data volumes to actually use, not for the number of CPU or core processors, which saves the initial cost for users.

(3) High Speed Connection with Hadoop*2
Hadoop takes attention as one of platforms to store big data such as social data. HP Vertica directly loads the files on HDFS*3 of Hadoop using HP Vertica HDFS Connector to analyze the data quickly. Thus, the data is exchanged interactively between HP Vertica and Hadoop, so that the users search big data for a high speed with high efficiencies of the performance by taking advantages of both products.

*1 Column-oriented DBMS: The database with a structure designed to store column data as a batch.
*2 Hadoop: The distributed data processing infrastructure developed and published by Apache Software Foundation. It is an open source software for anybody to use. This is effective for distributed processing and management of big data.
*3 HDFS (Hadoop Distributed File System): The distributed file system for Apache Hadoop.
