NTT Comware Starts a New Cloud Service towards Promotion of DevOps
-- Software Development as a Service "DevaaS 2.0"/IT Operations Management "SmartPIER" --

NTT Comware Corporation (Head office: Minato-ku, Tokyo; President: Shinobu Umino, hereinafter, NTT Comware) proudly launches a lineup of new functions to achieve an efficient and effective DevOps (^*1) cycle. This is based on the considerable experience and knowhow in software development of the enterprise systems and IT operations, which have been supporting the telecommunication infrastructure of NTT Group companies. We opened for subscriptions for users of the pilot product on December 1, 2016, and for full operation in the first quarter of fiscal 2017.

1. Background and Objectives

In recent years, with the rapid change in pace of business, the expected roles of software development and ICT operations are changing in order to provide rapid responses to the various needs of customers. Amongst these needs, the concept of DevOps is gaining the attention of companies in Japan who need to introduce such service.

NTT Comware started "DevaaS" (Development as a Service) in 2011 as a cloud-type software development environment. We released the service for free trial with new software development functions, including CI/CD tool (^*2), on December 1, 2016, aiming to more quickly meet the demands of agile software development. The full service, known as "DevaaS 2.0" is scheduled to be available on June 30, 2017. The services should realize shortening software development and release cycles and contribute to enhancing the competitiveness of user companies by allowing them to efficiently manage the time to meet the needs of their customers.

In IT operations, there is a great need for secure and effective operation and management in order to adapt systems that keep expanding to meet various needs in business. NTT Comware has started to release the cloud service SmartPIER for other companies, not only for internal use by our datacenter integration and operation system. This service also became available on December 1, 2016, concurrently with the release of "DevaaS 2.0" for free trial, and its official release is from May 1, 2017.

NTT Comware aims to provide various services for further promotion of DevOps and to contribute to the acceleration and efficiency of software development and IT operations as an enterprise solution.

2. Features

[DevaaS 2.0]
- Comprehensive software development solution as PaaS, available for agile development
This is a comprehensive solution to provide a software development environment for a client environment and trial server as well as server containers. We provide various development/trial tools such as the CI/CD tool, using the developer portal optimized from the viewpoint of developers based on our extensive knowhow obtained through a number of software projects for NTT Group companies. Along with the tool, consulting and advisory services will also be available for smooth transition into DevOps environments.

[SmartPIER]
- SaaS with a series of essential functions for IT operations and management
We provide a series of solutions as SaaS, including operations portals for data centers such as application for entry to data centers and node monitors, and IT operations and management solutions such as IT asset management and vulnerability management. The service aims to standardize and visualize IT operations and management tasks for users as well as for a more secure IT environment.

3. Future Scenario for DevOps Promotion

NTT Comware launched "DevOps Service Center" in December 2016 for further promotion of DevOps throughout the entire organization. The center aims to advance cloud services promoting DevOps, evaluation/introduction of tools and methodologies to support agile software development/operation, and capacity building of human resources for practical application of DevOps.
More services will follow globally in fiscal 2017, including multi-language solutions of various UI and increase in areas using the global network of NTT Communications Enterprise Cloud, aiming to provide a worldwide service such as offshore software development.
