NTT COMMUNICATIONWARE CORPORATION signs strategic contract with POLYSERVE to deploy software clustering products
Includes collaborative development of software cluster products and empowers NTT COMMUNICATIONWARE CORPORATION as exclusive sales agent.
NTT COMMUNICATIONWARE CORPORATION (Head Office: Minato-ku, Tokyo, President: Taneaki Mihara) has announced that starting this September, it would release PROgART / Local Cluster Enterprise, which NTT COMMUNICATIONWARE CORPORATION developed in collaboration with POLYSERVE Inc.(Head Office: California, U.S., CEO and President: Vincent M. Schiavo), based on POLYSERVE's software cluster ( *1 ) under a nationwide marketing strategy contract.

Progart/Local Cluster Enterprise was developed as a software cluster product based on the open-source Linux operating system. Its architecture replicates centralized management controlled by conventional dedicated hardware and servers through collaborative distributed administration services between servers, including monitoring services, switching servers, and distributing load. The distributed system enhances reliability and availability while dramatically reducing the cost and the number of tasks which are cumbersome for users. Conventional clustering requires expensive hardware and high-end storage solutions.
POLYSERVE leads the industry in server clustering, and has accumulated extensive experience through the development and marketing of software clustering products based on highly advanced Linux technology. NTT COMMUNICATIONWARE CORPORATION is a systems integration enterprise well-versed in systems engineering, as well as the development and maintenance of communication systems which must be reliable throughout the year. NTT COMMUNICATIONWARE CORPORATION plans to position this product, which is the result of the collaborative development of NTT COMMUNICATIONWARE CORPORATION and POLYSERVE, as a core service of the Linux total solution business; it will be deployed in general companies, government agencies, educational organizations, and retailers as well as mission-critical business fields, such as finance and telecommunications.
NTT COMMUNICATIONWARE CORPORATION has been authorized as the exclusive agent of Progart/Local Cluster Enterprise in Japan, and will also handle the sales of all POLYSERVE software cluster products. Both companies will continue to develop high-performance cluster products.
Features of Progart/Local Cluster Enterprise
· |
Multiple application (Web, database, applications, and so on) server faults will not cause system crashes.
|
· |
Manual server switching functions enable users to conduct dynamic maintenance tasks without shutting down.
|
· |
Fault monitoring function monitors the actions of servers, SCSI disks, TCP/IP, and other components in the clustered configuration.
|
· |
SNMP is used for interaction with operating and monitoring software.
|
· |
Load distribution function enables the system to quickly process requests.
|
· |
Progart permits several system configurations, such as duplex configuration (1+1), backup configuration (N+1), and multi-backup configuration (N+N).
|
· |
Zoning function allows users to define logical clusters within the physical cluster (or more than one clusters).
|
· |
256 services can be monitored by a single server independent of the number of computers in the cluster.
|
· |
Cluster management command interface enables users to control clusters from any application.
|
· |
Clustering can be configured for various OSs by leveraging the multiplatform function (Linux, Free BSD, Solaris, Windows NT)
|
· |
Data is replicated to ensure security for vital customer data.
|
· |
Cluster Scope, the cluster management utility, uses a Java GUI for easy, secure cluster control.
|
NTT COMMUNICATIONWARE CORPORATION plans to apply Progart / Local Cluster Enterprise with the above functions to the mission-critical fields of ISP/ASP and SI by incorporating a highly reliable transaction processing development environment, drawn from its vast operational experience in exchangers and transmitting units.
