NTT COMWARE CORPORATION and Viewlocity conclude strategic alliance for SCM
-Industry-leading SCEM solutions will support corporate SCMs-

NTT COMWARE CORPORATION (Head Office: Minato-ku, Tokyo, President: Yuji Matsuo) announced that it has concluded a strategic alliance contract with Viewlocity, Inc. (Headquarters: Atlanta, Georgia, U.S.A., CEO: Greg Cronin) and Viewlocity Japan Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Yokohama-shi, Kanagawa-ken, President: Hideo Nagashima). Under the contract, NTT COMWARE CORPORATION will invest in a joint initiative on Supply Chain Management (SCM) (*1) solutions focusing on Viewlocity's Supply Chain Event Management (SCEM) (*2) products that targets the distribution and manufacturing industry markets.

Most conventional SCM packages are Supply Chain Planning (SCP) (*3) products that are based on advance demand planning. Such systems disarrange proper inventory management by unexpected events.

Viewlocity has created the industry-leading solution that helps companies integrate inventory information into production planning in real time, and allows for seamless inter-operation with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) (*4), and Customer Relationship Management (CRM) (*5) products by means of its ERP connectors. The SCEM feature of Viewlocity's products enables companies to respond in real time to unexpected events along an extended supply chain.

Implementation of these features in systems would conventionally require development of individual system components, and would result in a huge investment in system architecture. Viewlocity's plug-in SCEM packages allow customers to build a low-cost and fully-developed SCM infrastructure. The packages have already been introduced at 3,500 sites in Europe, the United States and Asia, making their regional debut in the Japanese market. NTT COMWARE CORPORATION has accumulated information technology and communications know-how through its outstanding experience with the development, maintenance and operation of sophisticated information systems in Japan and by structuring SCM and distribution systems for the NTT Group. This know-how allows NTT COMWARE CORPORATION to provide companies with comprehensive and advanced IT solutions that include consultation and outsourcing services.

NTT COMWARE CORPORATION's proprietary technologies will facilitate the joint initiative with Viewlocity to deploy sales and marketing operations in Japan and other Asian markets. System integration and SCM solutions, including inter-operation with ERP and other backend systems mainstreamed by Viewlocity's products, are projected to result in ¥3 billion in sales in fiscal year 2001, and ¥12 billion in fiscal year 2002.
