High quality IP telephone service of telecommunications carriers to be implemented
"Softswitch SS70L" sales launched

On July 1st the NTT COMWARE CORPORATION (hereinafter, NTT COMWARE, Head Office: Minato-ku, Tokyo, President: Yuji Matsuo), will launch the sale of the "Softswitch SS70L (hereinafter, SS70L)", a softswitch that will enable large scale telecommunications carriers as well as emerging telecommunications carriers such as CATV, xDSL, and FITH to realize high quality IP telephone services to the general public.

The SS70L is an IP telephone server utilizing the SIP(*1) protocol which will be able to offer not only the basic services such as call waiting, call refusal, call forwarding, caller ID, and three way telephone calls, but other high value-added services such as "virtual community", a service which enables pre-registered users to mutually confirm situations such as absences or calls on other lines, and "telephony manager", a service which enables one to refuse calls or forwarding of calls upon confirming the call number. Also incorporated is a function that allows the customer to directly conduct applications, alterations, and cancellations of such services on a Web screen.

As an option of SS70L a "Service Development Kit (SDK)", a development tool which enables the carrier to offer original services to its customers, will be offered. With this the carrier will be able to develop voice recognition applications to be utilized in contact centers as well as to develop prepaid and/or postpaid calling services that confirms signals issued by the button operations of telephones. The SDK is an open standard API(*2) and may be developed using programming languages such as Java, SML, and HTTP.

The "RealtimeTM Applications Server" as well as the "RealtimeTM Developer" of the US LongBoard company (California, U.S.A) has been adopted as the platform of SS70L. The LongBoard company released into the market a SIP proxy server that provides signal control and call processing of SIP before any other company and has produced many accomplishments. The company has realized a capacity of a maximum of 540,000 calls in one hour in a 72 hour continuous run high load test conducted at the US Miercom company, a third party testing body which conducts computer endurance tests. The company has a reputation for its expandability, reliability, and high stability, and has provided high service quality demanded by telecommunications carriers.

NTT COMWARE, based on the know-how and technology that it has cultivated in its development of a large scale telephone switchboard for the Japanese information and communications technology industry, will in cooperation with the LongBoard company conduct marketing, sales, planning, development, and support of a solution with the said product as a platform to be offered to domestic businesses. Furthermore, it will offer a total solution that includes IP telephones that are appropriate for the Japanese market, access gateways, media gateways to public networks, operation support systems, and accounting systems.
