Resolves the problems of interconnections of IP telephone service providers Enrichment of the "Session Border Controller SC7000N" line-up
On October 6th, NTT COMWARE CORPORATION (hereinafter, NTT COMWARE, Head Office: Minato-ku, Tokyo, President: Yuji Matsuo) launched sales of the "Session Border Controller SC7000N SE (hereinafter, SC7000N SE)", a midrange model of the "Session Border Controller SC7000N (hereinafter, SC7000N*1)", which interconnects VoIP networks of IP telephone service providers.

[ Outline of the "SC7000N SE" ]
The "SC7000N SE", since superceding the functions of the presently sold "SC7000N", has decreased to one half the number of network ports as well as the maximum simultaneous processing session and has downsized the chassis size to one quarter. The sales price will start at 9.8 million yen for the product assessment starter set. Secure and highly reliable interconnections between networks can be realized at a reasonable price for IP telephone service providers such as internet service providers and/or CATV providers and it is not limited only to large scale telecommunication carriers. Also, regarding large scale telecommunication carriers, it is possible to expand step by step from the "SC7000N SE" to the existing "SC7000N" for the business expansion such as increases in the number of service providers. The "SE" of the "SC7000N SE" stands for "Single Engine". The present "SC7000N" will be positioned as a high-end model and its name will be changed to "SC7000N DE (Dual Engine)". (The specifications for the "SC7000N SE" and the "SC7000N DE" are detailed on the attached sheet.)
[ Function outline of the SC7000N series ]
The "SC7000N series" is a hardware product that corresponds to the SIP(*2) protocol which offers functions that are essential to connections between IP telephone service providers and is equipped with the following functions; (1) the "simultaneous connection session number management function" which prevents network band deficiencies and voice quality debasements due to calls that flow in from other interconnected provider networks as well as traffic increases (2) the "traffic information gathering function" which gathers data of traffic between networks (3) the "IP packet priority setting control function" which conducts individual settings and management of service levels according to the customer and (4) the SIP protocol correspondent "NAT/Firewall(*3) function" which enables Firewall usage that was difficult in conventional VoIP networks as well as making possible interconnections with providers using private addresses.
Furthermore, as it also corresponds to VLAN(*4), it is able to multiply connections in one system networks having duplicated private addresses. Also, it offers software that have VoIP communication without being influenced by NAT/Firewall that is installed on networks on the company side. For this reason, VoIP correspondent NAT/Firewall devices that were necessary to be installed/renewed by the individual company networks became unnecessary and thus IP telephone service providers are able to significantly reduce the cost of providing IP Centrex services(*5) and/or hosting type IP contact center services(*6) to businesses.
[ Alliance / partner ]
The "SC7000N" was developed by the US Netrake company and it has received high praise in Europe and the United States. NTT COMWARE is the only company in Japan which handles products by Netrake. NTT COMWARE presently conducts product planning and development to marketing / sales / support together with Netrake and is planning to undertake new function expansions in future as well.
[ Background of the solution distribution ]
With the granting of exclusive numbers for IP telephones by the MPHPT (Ministry of Public Management, Home Affairs, Posts and Telecommunications), transitions from conventional telephones to IP telephones is expected to accelerate. That being the case, in order for IP telephones to be able to spread nationwide in the same way as conventional telephones, interconnections between IP telephone service providers is essential. However, presently difficulties exists on a technical level such as security securement with Firewall and/or address conversions with NAT. Furthermore, it is difficult to control the number of calls which can be simultaneously connected between networks of the individual providers per connecting point. ThereforeAthere is concern regarding the debasement of voice quality due to call floods. With internet security becoming recognized as a social problem, the importance of security and quality of IP telephones will continue to heighten. If limited only to one's own network, it is possible to avert problems by implementing independent policies. However, when interconnecting with other networks, influences from network environments and policies of the other networks will increase and control will become difficult. Solutions to such problems are urgent points at this time.
[ Regarding the Netrake company ]
Founded in January, 2000, in Texas, the Netrake company has developed a carrier grade session border controller product based on its high technological skills in the network processing field. This product was introduced at the next generation network industry exhibition which was held in October 2000, and with its abundant functions and high processing capabilities it has been the center of widespread attention from large scale telecommunication carriers and service providers in the US. Also, the high performance of this product has been recognized by the Miercom company, a third party inspection organization of the US.

[ Glossary ]
- *1 Session border controller SC7000N
- The session border controller is a device which is set at the boundary point of the VoIP network and which controls the traffic that flows between the VoIP network and other VoIP networks. One such device in the VoIP total solution "NEXIPT" series of NTT COMWARE, "SC7000N" is the product name for the US Netrake made "nCite" in the Japanese market.
- *2 SIP (Session Initiation Protocol)
- A text based application layer protocol that realizes telephone call settings on the IP network. It is defined in the RFC3261.
- *3 NAT/Firewall
- NAT (Network Address Translation) : An address conversion system that is defined in the RFC1631. Normally, it is used to enable intercommunications by converting private addresses to global addresses.
Firewall : Set at the network boundary, it is a security system that controls outside access according to the programming.
- *4 VLAN (Virtual LAN)
- A function that logically conducts programming of network groups (LAN) without being influenced by the physical connection topology of the network. This product uses the VLAN Tag which is regulated by the IEEE 802.1q, to identify multiple networks.
- *5 IP Centrex service
- A service where IP telephone service providers conduct hosting of IP-PBX/Softswitches and the users such as companies uses its functions. This makes it unnecessary for companies to possess individual IP-PBX and thus making it possible to reduce costs of devices necessary for VoIP network constructions as well as operation/maintenance costs.
- *6 Hosting type IP contact center service
- A service where IP telephone service providers conduct hosting of Softswitches and applications necessary for IP contact centers, thus making it possible for companies to construct IP contact centers by simply readying just the terminals. Not only does this make cost reduction possible but it also enables flexible increases and decreases as well as seating configurations of agents.
