VoIP Gateway of the Softswitch "SS70V" solution Line-up expansion
- Utilization of VoIP while using existing PBX -

NTT COMWARE CORPORATION (Head Office: Minato-ku, Tokyo, President: Yuji Matsuo) has newly added to its IP based next generation network solution series NEXIPT's (NEXIPT: a coined term from NEXT and IP) Softswitch "SS70V" solution, four models of HITACHI COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGIES, LTD's (Head Office: Shinagawa-ku, Tokyo, President : Eiji Aoki) VoIP Gateway NT series and began sales on October 9th. It is now possible to connect the "SS70V" with any and all PBX used nationally which makes it possible to continue to use PBX that has not yet reached its renewal date, thus making VoIP installment with limited cost possible.

[ Characteristics of the integrated solution ]

The NT series VoIP Gateways to be newly added to the Softswitch "SS70V" solution are the "NT-230iB", the "NT-40i", the "NT-300" and the "NT-40" and with the "NT-230i" which is already offered, the line-up will now consist of five models. With the enhancement of the VoIP Gateway line-up, connection between PBX and the Softswitch which have differing connection interfaces depending on the type has become possible. For companies with multiple PBX, it would be advantageous to switch to the Softswitch sequentially in accordance with the renewal timing of each of the PBX. However, in cases where the PBX and the Softswitch will be jointly used, the VoIP Gateway which converts the respective transmission methods will become necessary.
Furthermore, the PBX interface which can be covered by the Softswitch "SS70V" solution are as follows.

· TTC2M (2M interface defined by the Telecommunication Technology Committee)
An interface for abort lines between PBX and an interface exclusively for digital line.
· OD (Out Band Dialing)
An interface for 4 line method analog abort lines that is widely used in PBX.
· PRI (Primary Rate Interface)
A standard ISDN interface (23 channels) defined by ITU-T.
· BRI (basic rate interface)
A standard ISDN interface (2 channels) defined by ITU-T.
· FXS (foreign exchange station)
A PBX interface that can contain analog lines.

(See the attached sheets for the PBX utilized VoIP image and the main specifications of the VoIP Gateways.)

For transmissions between the Softswitch and the various VoIP Gateways, the SIP (*2) protocol which has high expandability and which is defined by the IETF (*1) is used in order to flexibly correspond to future added services. SIP which is widely used because of its high compatibility with internet applications is rapidly increasing in the market and has become one of the standard protocols of VoIP.

[ Expansion of the solution ]

The "SS70V" solution with the Softswitch as its core achieves high level communication performance with toll call management, traffic control systems, private band PHS, Gateway and integration of IP telephones. This solution provides not only functions such as extension line calls, hold, transfer, pick-up, simultaneous calling tones, caller information displays and call waiting, but also a wide array of expanded services such as audio conferencing, voice mail and unified messages (*3). With the enhancement of the VoIP Gateway line-up, not only will it be possible to reduce transmission costs while utilizing present PBX, but will be able to offer a wide array of expansion services and strongly support the streamlining and improvement of transmission environments of companies. Furthermore, by installing the Softswitch "SS70V" solution, telecommunication carriers will be able to provide IP Centrex services and thereby capture customers that wish to continue to use their present PBX.

[ "SS70V" performance ]

The VocalData company's carrier grade Softswitch VOISS is used as the platform for this Softswitch and it can accommodate from a minimum of 100 extension lines to a maximum of 100 thousand extension lines in one system. From the start of its domestic sales in early 2002 up to the present, a total of over 25,000 lines have been sold.

[ Integrated solution implementation background ]

With the installation of the VoIP, companies are able to cut back on communication costs, however, for large companies with local offices in many locations a PBX is set at each location and the renewal date of these PBX is often not all the same. When such companies install the VoIP, they often wish to conduct the installation in stages that match the renewal dates of each of their PBX and therefore the matter of the co-existence of their current PBX and the Softswitch has been an issue.
