NTT COMWARE augments BUSINESS COMMUNICATION SS70V, the Mobile Communications Solution

NTT COMWARE adds Wireless IP Telephone to the line-up of devices compatible with this solution, which includes FOMA/Wireless LAN Dual-Network Handset and PHS devices. This mobile communications solution supports the creation of a comfortable office space.

NTT COMWARE Corporation (below, NTT COMWARE; Head office: Minato-ku; President: Yuhji Imai) has certified Wireless IP5000, the wireless LAN wireless IP phone developed by Hitachi Cable, Ltd. (below, Hitachi Cable; Head office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; Representative Executive Officer, President and Chief Executive Officer: Norio Sato) which supports SIP (*1), as one of the devices compatible with Business Communication SS70V, the IP Telephony Solution belonging to the VoIP Solution Series NEXIPT.

[Special Features of the Mobile Communications Solution utilizing Wireless IP5000]

Business Communication SS70V provides mobile communications solutions that enable smooth communication both inside and outside of the office through the use of wireless terminals including wireless IP telephones, FOMA/wireless LAN dual-network handsets (below, FOMA) and PHS devices. By installing a wireless LAN IP telephone in an office in which a wireless LAN network has been installed, just like a computer, the IP telephone can be moved anywhere within the office.
    Creation of wireless office space
This solution supports the creation of a free address workspace where the workspaces of company employees are not set. This solution allows users to choose between three wireless devices—wireless IP phones, FOMA and PHS—so that each user can select the device that is most suitable for their work style. For example, employees who are frequently out of the office for sales or other purposes can use mobile terminals, while the employees who remain in the office can use mobile or fixed IP phones.
    Reduction of costs
Wiring is not required because this solution utilizes a wireless environment. This means that even when the office layout is changed, users simply have to move their telephones. This translates into reduced complexity of moving work and operations, as well as reduced cost. In addition, when customers communication needs are only for inside the office, this solution will reduce expenses through reducing both installation and running costs because customers will not have to lease an outside line.
    Number portability
Numbers that can be utilized anywhere, regardless of location, are provided so that employees that are on business trips or that have been transferred to other branches, can still use the same IP phone and phone number. People can be contacted without having to first determine where they are. In addition, Wireless IP5000 is low volume and its usage time is long, to it can easily be implemented into a conventional wireless LAN environment.
    High-level security
This system complies with the WEP (*2) and IEEE802.1x (*3) authentication standards and ensures security with the IEEE802.11b (*4) wireless LAN.
[Future expansion of the Mobile Communications Solution]

The Business Communication SS70V mobile communications solution provides systems for FOMA and PHS use. With the addition of Wireless IP5000 to its lineup, NTT COMWARE has invested in wireless mobile communications solutions, an area which is attracting a high level of interest. By providing solutions which meet customer needs, NTT COMWARE aims to achieve a greater share of this market.

[Terminology]
    (*1) SIP (Session Initiation Protocol)
A text-based application-level protocol for telephone call settings on the internet. Due to its high compatibility with internet applications, it is widely used in VoIP devices and is becoming one of the standard protocols for VoIP.
    (*2) WEP
A security protocol for wireless LANs defined in the standard IEEE802.11b (*4) which provides security through encryption. WEP utilizes a secret key cryptosystem. Security keys come in 64 bit, 128 bit and 256 bit lengths. The larger the size of the security key, the more protection it provides.
    (*3) IEEE 802.1x
A LAN user authentication standard set by the IEEE (U.S. Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Inc.). It is used primarily in wireless LAN environments such as IEEE 802.11b (*4)
    (*4) IEEE 802.11b
