IT Asset Management and Advanced Security at a Low Cost

-- NTT COMWARE launches sales of the client terminal management software AdminITy Version 4.0, which features AdminITy Policy Option, an advanced security policy diagnostic function --

On November 17, NTT Comware Corporation (below, NTT Comware; Head office: Minato-ku, Tokyo; President: Yuhji Imai) will launch sales of AdminITy Version 4.0 which includes AdminITy Policy Option, a solution which supports the operation of information security policy. Threats to network security increasingly originate from within the network itself which has made the setting and optimal operation of information security policy an urgent priority. With AdminITy Policy Option, users can conduct scans to determine whether or not client terminals are adhering to the security policies set by management which allows security policy violations to be addressed before they occur. This in turn ensures reliable policy operation as well as the maintenance of a highly secure network environment.

[About AdminITy Policy Option]

  • AdminITy Policy Option controls internal network threats such as security holes and virus spreads, thereby ensuring the maintenance of a highly secure network environment.

    * The Client Terminal Security Policy Diagnostic Process

    1. Terminal self-diagnostic check
      Each client terminal performs self-diagnostic checks in each of the areas listed below to determine if the terminal is adhering to security policies. The results of the diagnosis are sent to the management server.

      The client terminal self-diagnostic check includes:
      • Whether or not the most up-to-date security patches such as Windows Update have been applied;
      • The implementation and application status of anti-virus software;
      • Whether or not the software required for security programs has been installed and in operation;
      • Whether or not prohibited software such as P2P software has been installed; and
      • Whether or not the client terminal is permitted to use USB memory; and
      • The status of the registry, which contains information including whether or not the client terminal is permitted to use USB memory, as well as screen saver setting information.

    2. Warning
      When a security policy violation is detected during a self-diagnostic check, an alert is displayed on the terminal screen.

    3. Isolation of Terminal
      When the number of security policy violations detected within a terminal exceeds a threshold number of violations, the terminal automatically shuts itself down.

    * Advantages of Implementing AdminITy

    1. Simple implementation process
      No renewal of network architecture or devices is required in order to implement AdminITy, thereby simplifying the implementation process.

    2. Reduced implementation costs and operational requirements
      Because AdminITy is implemented through software installation, implementation costs are kept to a minimum. In addition, because this solution is operated simply by setting up the security policy and distributing the software, this solution also reduces operational requirements.

    3. Advanced and reliable security policy operations
      This solution receives automatic security information updates (including information on items such as virus definition file versions and security patches) which are provided by NTT Comware. The provision of automatic updates which contain information essential to the formulation of security policies will enable users to easily set up advanced security policies.
      In addition, the control function for terminals which violate security policies supports reliable security policy operations, and is also effective in promoting user security literacy.

      + AdminITy Policy Option is an optional function for AdminITy Version 4.0 (separate purchase required).

[About AdminITy Version 4.0]

    AdminITy Version 4.0 features the following functions which have been included to reflect user needs.

    1. Improved inventory collection function
      AdminITy Version 4.0 features an inventory (information including hardware, software and security level) collection schedule for RAS/dial-up connection terminals (when connected to network).

    2. Expanded security analysis reports
      Using multiple search conditions, this solution enables users to create advanced security analysis reports based on cross analysis.

    3. Other functions
      Other functions to improve operations include a software distribution function, an encryption function for inventory collection, and a function which automatically creates a reflection of the database when the client information collection items change.

      + A CD-ROM containing AdminITy Version 4.0 CD-ROM will be distributed to customers currently on a one year maintenance contract. The CD-ROM will be sent between the end of November and the beginning of December.

[About AdminITy]

    AdminITy is software which allows users to manage both IT assets and security. AdminITy creates an information asset registry from the information collected from each terminal which users can use to produce asset management reports. In addition, AdminITy advances administrator-led security through three steps: situation assessment, policy promotion and policy enforcement. AdminITy supports the complex task of terminal management, and contributes to the reduction of the resources required to complete this task.
    AdminITy has been adopted by a large number of companies including by each member of the NTT Group.
