[Special Features and Product Advantages]
- ThinkPad e-UBF Model is an original product with the fingerprint authentication function of
the same kind of NTT Comwarefs e-UBF Unit. DDS Corporationfs (Nakagawa-ku, Nagoya City;
President: Kenji Miyoshino) spectrum analysis authentication algorithm is used with the ThinkPad
standard fingerprint sensor, enabling the utilization of log-in, screen saver, Windows Lock and
ID Manager (*1) following start-up of the Windows OS. In addition, with an enrolment rejection
rate (*2) of 0% and an ability to perform effectively even when the skin on the fingertips has
become dry and rough from the effects of seasonal weather changes, ThinkPad e-UBF Model will
improve security and simplify fingerprint authentication.
[ThinkPad Models installed with e-UBF fingerprint authentication]
ThinkPad T43 (2 models from the A4 Slim Mobile Notebook series)
ThinkPad X41 (2 models from the B5 Compact Mobile Notebook series)
[About e-UBF]
- e-UBF utilizes a spectrum analysis algorithm, a high-speed authentication algorithm which
converts the individual pattern found on fingerprints and which has already been employed in
public offices and financial institutions. Even when used for the identity verification of tens
of thousands of persons, e-UBF has been favorably evaluated for its high degree of authentication
precision with no accompanying enrollment rejection as well as its low cost. This solution also
includes various server management functions essential for large-scale system response such as
automatic log-in history acquisition, unauthorized access checks, as well as functions which
accurately assess the access situation during problem periods.
[Price and Sales Target]
- Price: The price is equivalent to the direct sales price for the ThinkPad series notebooks with
installed fingerprint sensors currently sold by Lenovo Japan.
- Sales target: 50,000 units in the 1-year period following start-up of shipping.
[Support System]
- NTT Comware will provide support for e-UBF-related software.
- Items other than e-UBF-related software are covered under the hardware warranties provided by
Lenovo Japan.
[Future Product Development]
- NTT Comware will develop an e-UBF Multi Device Server for conducting client/server-type
personal authentication in network environments in which the standard fingerprint server installed
in the e-UBF unit and ThinkPad is utilized.
* e-UBF Multi Device Server is a server which will quickly respond to newly developed fingerprint
sensor device registrations.
[Sales Campaign]
- Customers who purchase ThinkPad e-UBF Models notebook computer during the period beginning
21 December 2005 to the end of January 2006 before the launch of sales in February 2006 will
receive update software essential for fingerprint authentication (downloadable from a dedicated
website following the launch of sales in February 2006) as well as e-UBF Unit.
