[About PHISHCUT Functions]
PHISHCUT is the anti-phisching solution, which sales begun in April 2006. This is a system which
embeds digital watermarks into the websites used by financial institutions as well as internet
banking and shopping websites. PHISHNET also determines and informs the users who access these
sites whether the website to which they are attempting to send personal information including their
User ID and credit card number is real or counterfeit. If PHISHCUT determines the website to be
potentially counterfeit, PHISHCUT will display a warning on the userfs browser and will prevent
the userfs personal information from being sent to the website.
The upgrade version of PHISHCUT has an advanced security functions as below.
* Automatic Registration of Important Information
If users access the websites of financial institutions, they needed to register their personal
information including login ID or password, which should be prevented from sending to the websites
to be potentially counterfeit. This upgrade version of PHISHCUT allows usersf important data at
the initial access (items may be customized by the company of the website) to be recorded on the
downloaded software beforehand. This allows users to prevent sending their personal information to
be sent to the potentially counterfeit without watermark.
* Warning for Validation
With the old versions, a warning was displayed when users send data to websites with watermark but
not confirmed. The upgrade version displays an icon to identify whether the site is genuine or not
when users access the website for visualization. Even though users are about to send the data, a
warning is displayed for double-check.
* Suspected Website Information (Option)
PHISHCUT collects and provides information of suspected websites to the customers by scanning
websites.
[Background]
Phishing scams are acts of fraud committed by criminals who assume the identity of established
financial institutions such as banks, and then contact victims through e-mail instructing them to
access counterfeit websites to enter personal information including their User ID and credit card
numbers. This type of fraud is on the rise, particularly in the United States.
NTT Comware started the sales of PHISHCUT, the anti-phishing solution in April 2006. Phishing
cases have also occurred in Japan. Anti-phishing solutions are therefore encouraged by Financial
Service Agency to the financial institutions to take countermeasures designed to protect the
personal information of internet users from this type of crime. At NTT Comware, we have long been
aware of the magnitude of this problem and have developed the PHISHCUT solution in response.
[Price]
The authentication server and the website from which the specialized software is downloaded are
prepared by NTT Comware, and are provided to users through an ASP. The service usage fees for
the PHISHCUT Solution can begin from 250,000 Yen a month.
