[Background]
The Japanese SOX Act, the New Corporate Law, and the Private Information Protection Law raise hopes
of business entities for Think Client as a solution of security and corporate governance.
Thin Client, which requires no data storage in the client PCs, is effective to prevent information
leakage of confidential data including customer information. It also contributes to cost reduction
for operation and maintenance of PC terminals. Companies interests and needs toward Thin Client
were raised for trial and consideration of use.
Furthermore, a secure OS against data storage/fetch control and computer-virus was needed as well as
an essential solution to control unauthorized data use outside of companies.
[Outline]
Comware Thin Client is the customized version of Novellfs NLD9 which has proved its functions
as Desktop Linux for business use. It also guarantees business support services. NTT Comware has
improved and enhanced practicality and reliability of the software upon a one-year trial of Thin
Client within NTT Group.
Comware Thin Client achieves an advanced secure Thin Client environment for OS. It also saves the
total cost for users, including obtaining new terminals, in the process from consideration,
trials and practical operations of the software. Comware Thin Client is also practical to support
various phases of transition required.
(CD-ROM or USB Type)
The Thin Client environment is obtained by booting existing PCs from USB or CD-ROM drive without
installing new OS to PCs. The PCs will restore its original settings once Thin Client is terminated
as the PC environment remains unchanged. It allows customers to easily consider or conduct trials
of the Thin Client system.
A remote and secure network access is available with this software using the VPN (Virtual Private Network)
connection for users to use their company PCs away from their private PCs. The data obtained from
the office will not be stored in the private PCs out of the company, which prevents critical
information from being leaked.
(HD Type)
Thin Client OS in USB may be installed into HD. Once HD is initialized, the PC may be used as Thin
Client. It is effective for the organization-wide introduction of Thin Client system. As the system
does not allow users to store data in OS or HD, critical information will be isolated from the client
PCs, in the same manner as the USB and CD-ROM version, to achieve a secure network operation for
either working in the office or in a remote location.
[Future Development]
NTT Comware aims to integrate account management, centralize data stored in PCs and tighten access
rights to data as a the security control of desktops. In addition, a large-scale IT infrastructure
solution "Managed Ubiquitous Workplace & Data (the name is subject to change)" enables a hybrid
integration of Windows and Linux desktop into one server.
