NTT Comware Launches Sales of e-UBF Server Enterprise Fingerprint Authentication Solution Ver.3
-- Integrated Data Management System of Multiple Fingerprint Authentication Units --
NTT Comware Corporation (Head office: Minato-ku, Tokyo; President: Yuhji Imai; below, NTT Comware)
will launch sales of the new version of e-UBF Server Enterprise Fingerprint Authentication Solution
to enable the integrated data management of multiple fingerprint authentication units on February 8,
2007.

[Background]
As information leakage issues and incidents gain higher visibility, companies are increasingly
required to strictly control access to their information devices. Many companies are studying
whether they should use biometrics authentication methods for their security systems.
There was no integrated fingerprint data management system for two or more fingerprint authentication
units, although various fingerprint sensor-equipped products are available including the fingerprint
authentication unit with USB memory, or the onboard fingerprint sensor for laptop and desktop
computers which are usually on the keyboard.
[New Functions]
The conventional fingerprint data management server of e-UBF Enterprise Fingerprint Authentication
Solution was only compatible to e-UBF Unit. NTT Comwarefs new solution of the fingerprint authentication
enables an integrated data management of fingerprint on server for multiple units for the devices
such as ThinkPad e-UBF Model (*1) and/or e-UBF mini (*2), which is for a single user to use two or
more fingerprint authentication units.
The new function is to automatically verify fingerprint authentication units, which saves the time
for switching the units.
It also achieves further improvement of security such as the logon password Windows for users
without the fingerprint registration.
[Outline of e-UBF Enterprise Fingerprint Authentication Solution]
NTT Compare provides e-UBF Enterprise Fingerprint Authentication Solution to enable the fingerprint
authentication for access control of Windows logon and various applications instead of ID and
password. e-UBF Enterprise Fingerprint Authentication Solution employs Frequency Analysis
Technique (*3) (high speed verification of the individual pattern found on fingerprints as numerical
values) and Sweep Type Unit to enable the userfs the finger authentication with a touch and
movement of a finger on the sensor. These solutions receive high reputations of many users
including government offices, financial institution and insurance firms.
[Future Scenario]
Fingerprint authentication system is a highly secure method which verifies the individual patterns
found on fingerprints, so that it eliminates many problems such as loss or theft. NTT Comware's
e-UBF Server Enterprise Fingerprint Authentication Solution Ver.3 for more "user-friendly" and
"a highly secure system environment". NTT Comware plans to increase the range of systems available
for the fingerprint authentication following ThinkPad e-UBF Model.
[Terminology]
*1: ThinkPad e-UBF Model is NTT Comware original model of ThinkPad, Lenovo mobile PC with the
fingerprint sensor plus the e-UBF software.
*2: e-UFB mini is the fingerprint authentication device with USB memory.
*3: The fingerprint analysis-based algorithm is invented by Professor Taizo Umezaki of Nagoya
Institute of Technology, Graduate School of Engineering for joint development with Digital
Development Systems (DDS).
