Network-based entrance control system for condominiums
The implementation of a biometrics authentication system for condominiums with L-Box, the ultra-small Linux server in Tokyo
-- Network and fingerprint key system for home security --

NTT Comware Corporation (Head office: Minato-ku, Tokyo; President: Yuhji Imai; below, NTT Comware) and SEAMON Inc. (Head office: Chuo-ku, Tokyo; President: Mitsukuni Miyoshi; below, SEAMON) have jointly developed the Fingerprint Authentication Condominium Entrance Control System in June 2005. This system enables the fingerprint comparison procedures from a distance through the use of the ultra-small Linux servers built into the front door of each condominium unit. The system will be applied to one of SEAMON's apartment projects, Gakugei Daigaku Project (Tentative Name) (Address; 3-19 Takaban, Meguro-ku, Tokyo; the total number of households 48; the scheduled completion November 2007).

[Background]
Development of biometrics technologies is leading to increased demand for fingerprint authentication entrance control systems for condominiums. However, with conventional systems, the fingerprint information of all occupants, which consists of multiple finger patterns of multiple fingers, must be registered at the doors of each unit as well as at each of the main entrances to the condominium. Due to the complexity of and amount of time required for fingerprint recording and management procedures for conventional systems, implementation is limited to condominiums with a low number of units.
The Fingerprint Authentication Entrance Control System is an advanced network-based verification system for the doors of each unit. This system enables comparison and storage procedures to be carried out from the door of each unit, and which can be linked to the main condominium entrance for higher convenience and security as well as implementation for large-scale condominiums.
[System Overview and Features]
The Fingerprint Authentication Condominium Entrance Control System is a lock system which, through the application of the ultra-small Linux server [L-Box] technology (for more information, see attached) developed by NTT Comware, utilizes fingerprint authentication devices built into the front door of each unit and the one at the main entrance connected through the network within a condominium. This means that the fingerprint information for all occupants is not centrally managed, and allows for fingerprint comparison and recording procedures, as well as decentralized fingerprint information management to be conducted within each door.
When the occupant enters their room number and conducts a fingerprint comparison at the main entrance of the condominium, a comparison is made via a network with the data recorded within the front entrance of each unit within the condominium to allow the entrance. Fingerprint recording procedures are simplified because the fingerprint information is recorded and managed with the fingerprint authentication device built into the front door of each condominium unit. In addition, concerns over privacy or the potential for theft of all fingerprint information are eliminated because this information is not stored in a centralized location. Furthermore, this system imposes no limits on the number of units it can be applied to, allowing it to be easily implemented into even large-scale condominiums.
Furthermore, this system incorporates the excellent reliability and other fine qualities inherent in SEAMON's fingerprint authentication technology which enables the detection of forged fingerprints, and the correct reading of the fingerprints from fingers that are wet or oily.
[Future Scenario]
The demand for home security has been increasing among the potential customers of the condominiums while the number of construction projects increase for both high-raised and large-scale condominiums for the metropolitan area and suburbs respectively. In the condominium market, there is a shift of trend of the security system toward easy-operation and less management cost so that more condominium developers started to employ the fingerprint authentication entrance control system, which eliminates the risk of loss of entrance keys or troubles due to lending of entrance cards.
NTT Comware will promote this product to the condominium developers with a wide range of services.
[Notice]
The Fingerprint Authentication Condominium Entrance System will be displayed at SECURITY SHOW2007 held at Tokyo Big Sight, Tokyo from March 6th (Tuesday) until the 8th (Friday) , 2007. (SEAMON Booth: SS133)
