.Background
Phishing scams are acts of fraud committed by criminals who assume the identity of established financial institutions such as banks, and then contact victims through e-mail instructing them to access counterfeit websites to enter personal information including their credit card numbers and passwords. This type of fraud is on the rise, particularly in the United States, as well as in Japan. The Financial Services Agency of Japan promotes the use of countermeasures against phishing for financial institutions.Kyoto Chuo Shinkin Bank has been considering an anti-phishing solution as one of their crucial security issues of the website to provide various Internet services. In order to provide "a secure website and services for users", the bank decided to use PHISHCUT. Kyoto Chuo Shinkin Bank is the eighth operation of this service for financial institutions.
Outline of PHISHCUT
PHISHCUT is the anti-phishing solution, which is a system which embeds digital watermarks into the websites used by financial institutions as well as Internet banking and shopping websites. The dedicated software for users and the system are interlinked for authentication. This is to prevent personal information of users (e.g. login ID, password) from being sending to a phishing website as well as for its detection. The website for download of the authentication system and the dedicated software is available using ASP system (*2) provided by NTT Comware. This system will require less time for the service and no initial costs. Users will only install the software for automatic authentication.

PHISHCUT has been adopted by seven financial institutions for its simple introduction procedure and operability. This service will be further promoted to not only financial institutions but also municipalities and Internet shopping websites in the future.Terminology
