-- More support options for business continuity through the new locations and backup systems promotion nationwide --
NTT Comware Corporation (below, NTT Comware: Head Office: Minato-ku, Tokyo, President: Michio Sugimoto) newly introduced the SmartCloud Data Centers in Nagano and Hokkaido as two of the main locations to enhance its solutions for business continuity of corporate customers.
(1) Background/Outline
NTT Comware has provided the data center services at four locations in Kanto and Kansai regions. The new locations are currently in service to further meet customer needs for corporate IT systems to relocate or increase the backups against large scale disasters and rolling blackouts expected for their business continuity. There are now data center service locations, with Nagano and Hokkaido, currently six in total nationwide. This service allows customers to choose data centers wherever convenient for them in accordance with geographic locations (e.g. plates, power supply conditions) to control risks and further ensure their business continuities.

(2) Features of SmartCloud Data Center
SmartCloud Data Center provides efficient data center services with the carrier grade (a data communication carrier service level) disaster-proof facilities, securities, operations and Green IT policies. The data center seeks eco-friendly systems toward PUE=1.3 (*1) and quality IT services management as ISO/IEC20000 certified. The system has proven its efficiencies for business continuity in both aspects of software (technologies and operations) and hardware (facilities) of the system remained functioning properly to ensure business continuity even in case of the East Japan Great Earthquake. Private power generators are also available in case of rolling blackout.Given the social issues after the East Kanto Earthquake and power shortages, NTT Comware has completed different locations for the inhouse IT systems, development and cloud environments by mid July 2011. The solutions will also be developed with opportunities and know-hows for corporate customers to relocate or separate their IT systems.
[Terminology]
*1 "PUE=1.3":
> Power Usage Effectiveness
A measure of how efficiently a computer data center uses its power to show power consumption efficiencies of a data center, as proposed by The Green Grid. The higher efficiencies, the closer to 1.0. NTT Comware's Tokyo Data Center has achieved PUE=1.3.
> PUE= (total power consumption of a Data Center)/(power consumption of IT equipment in the Data Center)
