NTT Comware Corporation (Head office: Minato-ku, Tokyo; President: Michio Sugimoto; below, NTT Comware) launches the sales of Smart Manual on July 1, 2012. This is an information collection and delivery service to make corporate usersf operations more efficient and non-paper based in many business situations. Reservations can be made starting June 12, 2012.

1. Background

The importance of business operations manuals has become more significant in customer service scenes. On the other hand, there is another issue to manage a large amount of papers for document controls, which eventually burdens companies in terms of costs and time but underuse their resources. In order to solve such problems, NTT Comware has started joint researches with affiliates across industries such as corporate users, manual production companies and venders of related technologies and conducted a number of demonstration tests. SmartManual is now available, a new private information collection and delivery service, which employs network technologies such as cloud computing, for smart devices including smartphones and tablets.

2. Features of SmartManual
    (1) From Paper to the Cloud, With the Feeling of Paper

    * SmartManual enables the users to easily digitalize existing inhouse documentation such as manuals, catalogs, research material, and other documents, as well as to add movies, sounds and links to related information to the digitalized contents. The files are more accessible for the users than the existing ones to understand and use the contents.
    * Users may accumulate and share information and know-hows by underlining and/or commenting on a file stored in a smart device, just like paper documents.
    * The function to collect and deliver information enables users to correct documents or input results of a questionnaire on a file on smart devices. This service may be effective for correspondence or reporting in an office.

    (2) Efficient Settings for Smart Devices

    * SmartManual defines an attribution of the content, and manages and deliver information in a hierarchical structure. A large number of contents can be delivered properly with many detailed setting options for users to send information according to recipients and contents.
    * With the terminal application installed in a smart device, the contents are automatically updated at a predetermined time. It will significantly save costs for revising the files and make inhouse operations more efficient.
    * Detailed authentication settings are available to categorize files for different projects, distribution and user management. Therefore, users in a company may recognize and share the contents to appropriately share the roles.

    (3) Collection and Use of Logs to Support Contents Updates and Streamline Inhouse Operations

    * Smartphone users' long-in records including contents viewing and commenting on a file can be downloaded to the administrator's personal computer in a CSV format, for tracking the actual usage of the content.
    * As it is easily access to the user behaviors, users may identify contents which need to be updated at a right time to achieve an efficient workflow in the office.

    3. System Configuration and Services

This service is comprised of a management system such as a document delivery control system, and a dedicated application to be installed to a terminal device.
